Environmental Epidemiology in Latin America (2013-2014)

This project team built on the previous year's pilot program to provide students with greater experience and skills in the design, implementation, analysis and communication of environmental health research in low- and middle-income countries. Team members received training in vulnerability, demography, human health and land use/cover change analysis (LUCC) as well as hydrology and biogeochemical cycling.

A joint training program in November 2013 consisted of orientation and team-building exercises, didactic teaching by faculty team leaders, skills-based training for data collection and management, laboratory and quantitative training and cultural sensitivity and language training.

Bass Connections was a really good way to participate in a larger research project that gave me more data to work with, and more flexibility and options. The project influenced my thesis, which in turn affected the type of job I’m qualified for.
