History Professor Edward Balleisen Named Vice Provost For Interdisciplinary Studies

Edward Balleisen, associate professor of history and public policy, has been named the new vice provost for interdisciplinary studies. He will succeed the current vice provost Susan Roth, who has served in the role for the past 8 years.
At Duke, Balleisen chairs the Academic Programs Committee and serves as the director for a project with the Kenan Institute of Ethics. He has also been extensively involved with Bass Connections. He received two separate Bass Connections grants to conduct research with an interdisciplinary team as a faculty team leader for "Reviewing Retrospective Regulatory Review", an Information, Society & Culture themed project.
