My Bass Connections Pathway

Jessica Bolton, a PhD candidate in Psychology and Neuroscience, was a member of the Bass Connections team Maternal Nutrition and the Developing Brain, part of the Brain & Society theme. She graduated earlier this year.

“I gained valuable experience in mentoring the undergraduate members of our project team, which I believe contributed greatly to my achievement of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring. And finally (most importantly for PhD students), my involvement is leading to two first-author publications. For PhD students, I would encourage them not to look at Bass Connections as just another time commitment or 'distraction' from their primary research. I would encourage them to look at it as an opportunity to expand the scope of their research experience, forge new collaborations (i.e., network!) and attain more publications, all of which will be very good for their career. I have no regrets!”
