Slavery's Global Legacies and Local Contexts

Friday, January 29, 2021 - 4:00pm to Saturday, January 30, 2021 - 2:45pm

Speaker(s):
Jessica Marie Johnson, Kirsten Mullen, William Darity, Jr., and Pierce Freelon,

Please join Remembering the Middle Passage, a Bass Connections team, for a virtual conference to be held January 29-30, entitled: "Commemorations and Reparations: Slavery's Global Legacies and Local Contexts." See attached flyer for details. This conference brings together historians, digital humanists, and community activists to raise important questions about the global and local impacts of slavery. It arose out of a historical research project that sought to commemorate lives lost in the Middle Passage. Our research into those deaths demanded that we consider the resonances of those lost in the present day. We thus take into consideration the history of slavery as well as its immeasurable impacts on the descendants of the enslaved.
