Speaker(s):
Andrea Wulf

Andrea Wulf is an award-winning Alexander von Humboldt biographer. She has written five acclaimed books, including The Brother GardenersChasing Venus, and Founding Gardeners. She will be exploring Humboldt's legacy in her Lynn Day Lectureship in Forest and Conservation History.

This lecture is linked to the AvH250: Imagining Interdisciplinary Research for the 21st Century from a 19th Century Perspective Bass Connections team. In 2019-2020, this project team is exploring the career and history of Alexander von Humboldt, a scientist most noted for bringing together different scientific and historical perspectives on Earth, including positing the first description of human-induced climate change and providing core launch points to other luminary scientists.

The Lynn W. Day Distinguished Lectureship in Forest and Conservation History is sponsored by the Forest History Society, the Duke University Department of History and the Nicholas School of the Environment. This year's lecture has received additional support from Bass Connections at Duke University.
