Data Dialogue: Big Data for Reproductive Health

Thursday, October 25, 2018 - 11:45am to 12:45pm

Speaker(s):
Amy Finnegan, Saumya Sao, Melanie Lai Wai

Learn about the Data+ summer project Big Data for Reproductive Health and the 2018-19 related Bass Connections project team.

During Data+ 2018, the team built a website that hosts four R Shiny apps, allowing users to explore contraceptive use trends from the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS).

Alex Pavluck, Senior Manager of ICT at RTI, provided technical assistance around the design and development of the tool including pain point analysis, stakeholder/user mapping and creating and following through on systems requirements.

The Bass Connections team has two sub-teams. One is working on stakeholder engagement around the tools with Triangle-based and international tool users; the other is taking the DHS data and modeling contraceptive discontinuation using unsupervised and supervised learning techniques.

Speakers will discuss early results from this process and solicit feedback on their approach.
