In 1869, Harvard's president called for “a new education” to transform the Puritan college into the modern university designed to train and credential America's new professional-managerial class. This is the university we have inherited. Cathy Davidson, a distinguished scholar of the history of technology who served as Duke's first vice provost for interdisciplinary studies, will lead an interactive discussion on why we need a “new education” for the world we live in now, and how to make that transformation.
